Mom is a cartoonist and she has a deadline to make today. Despite this, she makes breakfast for the kids, takes them to school, and ends up volunteering to help draw the poster for the Parents' Bazaar Day. Tomorrow, is Bunji's birthday and he ends up getting sesame salt…

In these next shorts, mom is shocked that Bunji has poor hiragana recognition. In different efforts, she finally decides to help him improve but sometimes gets a bit impatient. Mom worries that she doesn’t bring anything to the school’s bazaar, Bunji cries since he doesn’t get to buy a toy he wants, Bunji plays in the mud at the park washing away the dirt in an area meant for pets, and mom reminisces about the past.

We learn about how Mom and Dad met in a jungle in Thailand, they go to a ramen shop with their kids, and dad makes Fumi promise to never leave and stay with him forever.

We follow the family as we find out that Mom was raised in a small fishing village in Kochi, Fumi works her manipulative ways to get what she wants at times but ruins her new dress in the next short, and finally Dad, who works as a cameraman, one day returns home and sees Bunji who he hasn’t seen in a long time.

Mom is leisurely shopping with Fumi when she needs to go to the bathroom so rushes there but…; Bunji is out with his friend while Fumi is home with Mom pouting since she would rather be out – Mom is about to lose her patience; Deadlines are piling up so Mom needs to work on Sunday but her children want to go out to play; Perhaps, Italian cuisine?

We see mom scolding Bunji for not cleaning up even though she hates doing it herself; After cleaning, they take out an electronic multiplication table that Fumi and Bunji start playing with. Mom is a bit hesitant since she is not so good with the multiplication table; One day, Mom is surprised when Bunji states his desire to study so she takes him to the hospital where they find nothing wrong with him. But, is there anything wrong with his body?

Mom's favorite willow tree was covered with caterpillars which she abors; Bunji is not always well behaved, so the discipline Gods scold Mom and urge her to improve in this area; Fumi suddenly wants a backpack so grandma makes her one but she doesn’t like it; Seeing the beautiful sunset, Mom and the kids take a stroll when Mom asks them what they want to be when they grow up.

John, the pet dog, is good at escaping and the whole family goes out to look for him; Bunji and Fumi let John inside the house despite mom’s petition that he’s an outside dog. Guess what John brings for mom…; When John didn’t have a name, Bunji called him “Batman” and Fumi called him “Butterfly”. Despite what they called him, he always responded happily; John manages to escape again but this time, they can’t find him…

Whenever Bunji needs to go to the bathroom, he is known for not being able to hold it and has a bad habit of continuing to play despite his need to go; Bunji was covered in dirt when mom came to pick him up. She let him be and joined Morita-san and Nagasaki-san as they began to talk about being a mother of sons; Bunji is running all over the place sticking beans in his ears, a doll's hand in his nose and digging himself a hole. Mom is speechless when Fumi says…; Fumi didn't cry when going to school but that’s because…

Mom wrote about strange foods that aren't normally eaten in Japan in her manga when one day, Bunji wants to eat something that's unthinkable; Even though they heard that you become a fool if you eat sweets, Bunji and Fumi still want to eat them; Fumi makes up a story and tells it at home and at school. Mom was concerned about this so she asks Fumi why she created a story and was surprised to hear her answer; On occasion, Mom will go out at night with those she knows from work as her reward where she gets pretty drunk. However, looking at the faces of Bunji and Fumi while they are asleep is really the biggest reward.

Again, Bunji chooses to continue playing even though he needs to go to the bathroom so he ends up peeing himself. That's when the discipline Gods appear before the exhausted mom; Mom always points out how good of a child Fumi is but on occasion, she unexpectedly scolds her quite harshly. On that particular day, she punished her mistakenly; Recently, Fumi has been acting strangely giving Bunji some attitude; One evening, mom forgot about something she had to take care of and ended up rushing out of the house without her bag. She went to give Bunji and Fumi the things they forgot but it started to get late...

In order for mom to finish up the manuscript, she told Bunji to go play but you'll never guess what he did; The day of the deadline - Since grandma wasn't around, mom had to feed the kids and go to work afterwards. However, she didn't make their favorite food...; Mom was working all night long and just when she thought she could take a break, Bunji and Fumi catch a cold where mom must nurse them back to health; Bunji, Fumi, and grandma go back to Kochi. Mom was planning on enjoying some alone time.

Taking advantage of the summer holidays, the family goes to Singapore. Bunji is amazed by everything and becomes the laughing stock but kids from other countries seem to do the same; Bunji is ecstatic to see a water slide at the pool when the stronger Russian, Misha appears. Bunji can't create quite as big of a splash as Misha; After Singapore, they are off to the Philippines to meet up with dad who shows them around; Bunji and Fumi are around the same age as the street children who are begging for money.

The family went back to mom's hometown, Tosa. Somehow, the heat is different from Tokyo's so they are fully enjoying the countryside. Rumor is, there is a ghost that appears in "Hell's Valley" when Bunji and Fumi go exploring; Mom and her older brother unexpectedly went to their parents' home. Mom didn't know everything about her real dad and for the first time, her brother begins to speak of him; Mom and her brother took the Buddhist tablet and the picture of their dad to bring back to their homes which was a secret between them.

It's been a while since dad has been home. He mentions how girls are better since Fumi is emotionally attached while Bunji is a bit hurt; Dad went barhopping while Bunji went to friend's after friend's house. Mom lectured them respectively; Bunji's teacher complimented his artwork despite his lack of talent which mom learns from; Dad made some time and played with the kids as much as possible. They sat on his lap while watching TV. Mom was earnestly looking from behind which reminded her of her own dad.

Mom is trying to reach her work deadline when she receives a call from Chi-kun’s mother who’s down with a cold which puts mom in a pinch; Mom and Bunji went to Iwamura’s house where there are four boys. They are tough boys and usually place baseball at home; They went camping with another family by the riverbed. Dad claimed to be the Commander Fire when Bunji and the other boys began to set up the portable stove; Bunji and the other kids swam in the river, caught rhinoceros beetles in the mountains, and fully enjoy the camping trip. However, Bunji’s rhinoceros beetle went missing so everyone began searching…

Today is the day that everyone is going to the amusement park. However, mom is trying to avoid going by having Ma-kun’s mom and Chi-kun’s mom take the kids; Bunji and the other kids are having a jolly time gathering shells while the mothers let out a sigh. They see a mother and daughter walk gracefully before them; Bunji & Fumi go to a nearby pond to catch tadpoles. Dad began to tell them about how tadpoles turn into frogs; Unexpectedly, Bunji and Fumi were the only ones in the house. Fumi suddenly missed her mom and began to cry.

Bunji doesn’t keep a calm composure when crossing the street which worries Mom that one day he will get into an accident. On day, Bunji was late so mom couldn’t help but…; Grandma and Bunji are left at home as Fumi goes shopping with Mom. If Bunji went as well, he would enjoy it at the beginning but he would gradually turn the other way; Mom begins to read Taro’s book to Bunji and Fumi. But from one of Bunji’s simple questions, the talk of Taro begins to gradually escalate; In order to teach the kids to become independent, Mom told them to go to bed on their own. However, the two weren’t used to it so they tried every which way to not be separated from their mom.

Bunji is unable to express his gratitude to people. Mom must try tactics from the advice given to her by the spirits of early childhood education; Recently, Fumi has an aspiration to become a model. When asked why she wants to be a beautiful lady, she has a surprising answer; Mothers with sons are always concerned when they do laundry but what is mom’s secret technique?; In town, there is the sound of a child crying when all of a sudden, a bunch of middle-aged women gather around. Back in the days, mom never understood why people did this but now she is one of them.

Like always, mom is taking the kids on the bike as she is huffing and puffing biking up a hill. As she is riding, she sees another homemaker speeding right past her on an electric bike; Mom noticed when she started to lecture Bunji, a beam came from his head and he wasn’t listening. Today, his beam also appears and he begins his communication; Out of nowhere, Fumi said that she wants her own room so she went to ask her dad; Bunji and Ma-kun have a falling out. Even though he is upset over the phone, Bunji asks Ma-kun over to play. They have a huge fight again so mom gives up on them.

In order for the kids to show off at the kindergarten athletic meet, Dad starts a strict training regimen. But, due to inclimate weather, the meet is cancelled; Upon heading to the park after the rain, Dad is delighted to see the sun be out. Bunji gets into an argument with a friend, but he says a bunch of things they don't understand; Mom begins to lecture Bunji about quarrels, but...; Mom's deadline is fast approaching and Dad, Fumi, and Bunji are romping around like usual. Before they realize it, Mom is nowhere to be seen... Did she run away?; The family goes to a local festival. They eat yakisoba, do target practice, and visit the night vendors. Dad, now drunk, goes all out in a battle at the ball throwing stand...

Bunji becomes a first grader, at long last. That morning, Dad tells Bunji that he is to become a chosen, special first grader. Bunji believes these words and sets off for school...; Mom is more worried than ever due to the fact that Bunji's entering elementary school. The more she thinks about it, the more nervous she gets, to the point where she can't even effectively get work done.; And then the crab arrives! Mom was planning to hog it all for herself and not tell anyone about it, but Grandma notices.; The elementary school day begins earlier than kindergarten did. Mom has to wake up extra early to take Bunji to school. Plus he has homework which he needs help with. Mom is getting burned out by this routine, when she had to stay up all night to finish work and then take Bunji to school and...

Bunji comes home after losing a fight. Mom thinks that, since Dad is never around, Bunji never learned how to fight. So, she starts the "Men's intensive training month."; Bunji, Ma, and Chi, all good friends, form an idiotic trio. The three of them are always so lively! Then, on a rainy day, they're all in the Kamohara home...; Through her work, Mom meets an idol and is impressed by the many feminine charms she has. Hearing her speak, Mom, in a flurry of stupidity, forces poor Fumi to dance.; It's early afternoon and Mom is sleeping, not doing any work. Just before, Bunji almost did something very dangerous, but he got away okay. She feels so relieved and dozes off...

Mom spots a large bald spot on the back of Bunji's head. The Spirit of Early Education freaks Mom out when he tells her that it's a boy's spirit callingfor help due to being neglected by his parents. Mom tried to improve her lax attitude towards Bunji, but...; Bunji can't calm down and can't sit still for lunch or going to the bathroom. That behavior just makes his school teacher say that "Bunji sure has a strong sense of curiosity." Mom was impressed by this, but...; Mom goes to wake Fumi up after sending Bunji off to school. She is enticed by Fumi's comfortable bed and drifts off to sleep herself, to the sound of Fumi's breathing. She drifts off to dreamland. Then, Bunji, Ma, and Chi engage in a never-ending argument about peppers, which, incidentally, they all hate.

Mom picks up Bunji from school on a rainy day, with an umbrella in her hand. She notices responsible little girls and rambunctious little boys, without umbrellas, running about...; Dad apologizes profusely after Mom says she'll divorce him if all he ever does is drink. Bunji hears this and asks what "divorce" means. He finds out it's something scarier than a ghost; Mom and the gang get dressed up and walk around the neighborhood for Halloween. But, they are chased by a dog and get lectures by Dad who has no idea what Halloween is.; At the kindergarten Halloween party, there are a group of young moms who are enthusiastic about it, a group who have no idea what it is, and a group of randomly crazy foreign moms...

Bunji's friend Daichi is always running around in short pants. One day, he comes across 17 turtles and brings them back to play with. Bunji is all excuses because he doesn't want to study kanji. As Mom is stressed over the situation, the spirit of early education and spirit of educational enrichment appear before her. Of course, it turns into a fight as usual. Mom thinks that Fumi is tone-deaf, but actually it's a trait handed down from her. Wanting to do something about it, Mom hastily buys a piano. The two start to practice, but... Bunji is worried his friends will see him holding hands with his mother at the crosswalk on their way to school, now that he's an elementary school student.

Mom gets to witness Mrs. Mugi and her five sons.

Mom is extremely worried because Bunji is showing zero interest in reading. Surprised that he cannot do math at all either, she makes him do math tables. Bunji then...; Bunji scores a 90 on his kanji test! The Kamohara household is delighted. When Mom tries to teach him the one he got wrong, Dad interrupts with his special kanji training!; Fumi hides under her bed and won't come out. Mom brushes it off, but Dad sees it as a sign of her soul and many hijinks ensue.; Dad and Fumi go to the supermarket on an errand run. While Dad is trying to get a read on Fumi's soul's sign, he manages to get inebriated at a wine tasting they're holding. Only then does Fumi open up...

The defender of justice, Bunji Man! He patrols the town looking for people in trouble, with Fumi and the others in tow. Upon doing so, he encounters a young boy trying to find a winning ice cream stick at a convenience store; Upon returning home from school, Bunji casually announces that he had an accident (#2) at school. Mom is startled and tells him that he must bear it and continue to focus, when that happens; That night, Mom, Mrs. Morita, and Mrs. Nagasaki gather at the school. They attempt to look for their children's forgotten items. They brace themselves for the worse as they dig in, but keep finding unexpected things, one after another...; Bunji is invited to dinner at the stately residence of his classmate, Hiku. Bunji frolics around like usual as the butler, Mr. Yagi, grows concerned...

Bunji is obsessed with his toy cars. Mom means to look after him, but because she doesn't stop him, he drifts into the toy car's soul. Bunji, Ma and Chi play in the mud again. They become the "fried oyster men"!; Bunji practices riding a bike. With Mom, Dad, and Grandma on his side, Daichi and him manage to pedal!; Fumi declares she wants a little brother. Mom tells her to make do with Jon instead. Fumi begins to treat Jon like her younger brother.; Bunji enters first grade and has trouble with subtraction. Mom takes advice from the spirit and buys him the easiest practice book she can. They vow to practice ten minutes a day, but...; Bunji's troubles with subtraction continues. Mom makes him an exercise involving loaning money, but Bunji just says he won't give the money back!

Mom and the gang visit a super bathhouse! Dad is all fired up and causing a ruckus all over the place. He then encounters an elderly, hermit-like man called the "bathhouse chief."; Fumi's friend Ako is over to play. While Mom isn't looking, Bunji is drawn into a crazy session of playing house with the girls; The class representative from Bunji's school, Nochiharu, is leaps and bounds a better student than Bunji. He begins to back Bunji up when playing and at school...; The girls from Bunji's class come over to play. Something doesn't feel right, and Mom has a bad feeling. Just as she thinks this, they say they want to see her draw manga...

Fumi and her rival, Kanna, battle it out to decide who gets to play Cinderella in the upcoming school play. Thus begins a strenuous battle between the mean "Black Fumi" and the kind and pure "White Fumi."; Eventually, they decide to let Fumi, Yuki, and Kanna all be Cinderella. The family watches the train wreck in bewilderment; Bunji and three of his stupid friends cannot remember last night's homework. This leads into being scolded but having fun as well; The four of them are crawling around in the sandbox at the park. They don't mind the pain as they continue to romp around and have fun. Unfortunately, Bunji decides he wants his stupidity to surpass all the others and...

Defender of justice, Bunji Man. Once again, he rounds up Commander Fumi and goes to seek the town for people in need. He then encounters Daichi who is being picked on by some boys at a shop selling sweets; Back at home, Daichi's mother and Mrs. Gonda are visiting. As Mrs. Gonda discusses her strong child rearing techniques, the topic of conversation turns to their three boys' report cards; On a day off, Bunji and Dad go to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Dad, teaching his son about sushi etiquette, proclaims, "You must start with the gyoku!" and "Don't use chopsticks!" etc.; The Kamohara family's wishes for Santa Claus to adorn their Christmas tree. A mix of the Japanese holiday, Tanabata, and Christmas. In them, you can see what the family members truly desire.

The family goes to visit Dad in the hospital. Each night, you can hear the cries of the cicada, well out of season. This starts a rumor about cicada ghosts being in the hospital; Mom awakes from a nap to the sound of Bunji and Fumi yelling "Jon!" She thinks something's amiss, and sure enough, when she looks in the mirror she sees that she turned into Jon!; It's the first time it's snowed at the Kamogara house in a long time. They break up into two squads, managed by Mom and Dad respectively, and have a snowball fight. Mom uses her clever wit to slowly collapse Dad's team; Mom and the family are shopping at a department store at New Year;s. Dad, in a rare display of generosity, offers to buy Bunji and Fumi one toy each. Mom asks, "What, I don't get one?"

The family is back in Kochi for New Years break. The children are so excited for their otoshidama. Seeing this, Dad begins to tease them.; Mom's brother and Dad go to teach the kids badminton, for fun, but it turns into a big competition between them so the kids wander off...; The family goes to a mochi making competition. Dad and Bunji enter the contest while Mom and Fumi help sell things. As soon as they start selling, the men rush in.; Bored with the New Year's food, Mom begins to cook something that her father used to always make her just using flour and sugar.

Dad gets mad when he sees a tiger on TV being so friendly to humans. He says he's going to show his family what real tigers are like, and whisks them off to the zoo. Unfortunately, the tigers and lions didn't get the memo...; The boss monkey at the monkey mountain threatens Dad. Dad, doing a great job imitating the monkey, appears to be having a conversation with him...; Bunji says he's going to marry a girl from his class. Then, she makes him sign a contract to those words. Suddenly, the spirit of early education appears to let Mom know that this girl is just toying with Bunji's emotions; Mom and Fumi are casually baking cookies on a calm afternoon. Suddenly, Fumi asks Mom if she's ever kissed a man other than Dad! Mom quickly answers that she has. Fumi then...

Once again, Bunji Man is out on patrol to protect the peace of the neighborhood; A huge dog and Mizunu-Man appear as well. Fumi is playing with her three favorite dolls. This leads Mom to search all over the house...; Bunji is on a field trip to visit the fire station. Bunji is sad that he lost rock-paper-scissors and will not be allowed to be on the hook-and-ladder truck. He ends up being oddly shown around by a high-tension fireman...; Bunji has to write an observation journal over winter break. He decides that he's not going to tell Mom what he's writing about. Bunji is praised for his observation journal after winter break ends. It seems he was writing about Mom...

Bunji is invited for a hotpot dinner at the home of the four Iwamura children. Unable to be silent, the hotpot master, Dad, teaches Bunji how to be a hotpot samurai; Mom's assistant, Ai, takes Bunji and Daichi to a Hopperman show per Mom's request. Ai braces herself for the worst, but the boys' behavior far surpasses her expectations; Dad is out of town on business. Against the dry winter night, Mom gently asks Bunji and Fumi if they want to go see the snow; Dad is sorting war photographs for his work. Bunji walks in and offers to help. Dad is proud that he gets to show his working self to his son once in a while.

Dad enters the Parent/Child Ball Match Tournament on Bunji's team. He's casually playing around when a fast ball comes flying in. Bunji looks and sees Gonda on the opposing team! They are ready to duel to the end with their familial pride on the line. Bunji develops a bad habit where he chews on his hand while watching TV...Bunji, the "king of forgetfulness" announces he has a test tomorrow. He was able to forward a message from his teacher without forgetting it! After this, he's ready to study hard and get a 100 on his test! Mom sees this and helps. Many of Fumi's friends come over for her birthday party. Fumi gets upset with Kanna in a discussion about cooking. Inside of Fumi, White Fumi and Black Fumi argue...

Bunji is struggling with subtraction. Determined to teach it to him today, Mom tries drawing familiar things for him...; Mom, feeling down with a cold, has Dad, Bunji, and Fumi pitch in and do the housework in her stead. She begins to feel better, after the respite. She then sees what she believes to be a surreal hallucination...; Mom and the other moms are busy preparing for Bean Throwing Day. Dad brings the children along, but everyone is dressed "out of season." The dads, unreliable as they may be, have to play the role of the ogres; Dad is acting very lazily when Mom yells to him, "You are the pillar of this family!"

Mom takes Bunji to a karate dojo. At first he is excited, saying he want "to be strong, like Hopperman!" But, he ends up dearly frightened of the energy emitted by the instructor. Bunji plays hookie from his karate lesson, but Mom catches him with his favorite chicken drumstick. Mom tries to convince him to give it another try, but Bunji is genuinely terrified and won't listen. Fumi becomes obsessed with a white dress on display at a department store, saying she wants it so bad. She pesters Mom every day about it, and every day Mom says no, saying she will get it dirty. But then something happens...! Mom has a deadline fast approaching and cannot take time to listen to Fumi. Seeing her mom hard at work, Fumi gets near her and begins to recite a picture book...

The mysterious life-form, pinyari. It's always going after everyone. Fumi and Bunji heard about the pinyari from Mom and low and behold, they spot one! Fumi wants a little sister. the Kamohara household is entrusted with watching over a girl. Fumi tries her hardest to take care of her but things don't go as planned... Fumi decides she wants high-heels while out shopping. Mom, remembering her youthful desire for high-heels, reluctantly purchases them for her. But on the way home...! Lately, Bunji's been doing odd things like stuffing bread in the VCR and crackers in the CD player. Suddenly, a spirit appears before Mom and proclaims that Bunji might be a scientific type!

Mom will never lower her head to Grandma. So again, she has to put up with her slovenly behavior. Then one day, Mom lies to her as she leaves to go play mahjong...At the monthly PTA meeting, Mugi, the mother in a very large family, stands up and makes a proclamation. Her suggestion is received very well by the other mothers. Bunji and Daichi are racing turtles in the hallway. Dad declares, "If it's horse racing, leave it to me!" Mom is brought in as a reluctant color commentator, and they're off...! Bunji and Mom go to a department store to buy a return gift to give to Chinatsu on White Day. Looking to choose a gift that "tickles a woman's feelings," Mom picks out the sweet that's all the rage: macarons.

Dad is told he cannot drink alcohol for a while upon having his wisdom teeth removed. He inches ever so close to giving into temptation, each time being reprimanded by Mom, Bunji, and Fumi. Once again, the spirit of early education appears to Mom as she worries about Bunji's school issues. Then suddenly, the peculiar "spirit of relaxed education" appears! Taka, Mom's friend as a little girl, appears. He looks like a run-of-the-mill businessman, but has a certain kindness to him. He accompanies him on the way to karate class, and suddenly busts into a demonstration! The mothers are having tea. It turns into a discussion about their children, and Mom goes off on a rant about hers. Dad returns and goes into a talk about the second child, e.g. Fumi...

Just a normal day in the lives of Mom, Dad, Bunji and Fumi. They all have things to do, and gather around Mom. She loved times like these. Mom tells the stories of why Bunji wore diapers for so long and why Fumi took so long to take her first steps. In fact, Mom was the reason for both of these... Bunji is acting like Hopperman and drags Mom and Dad into it. Right when they think it's over, Bunji makes a wild proposition...! Fumi leaves food wrappers laying around. Bunji leaves the door open. It turns out the kids lose their focus when they go into the magical world through the "Children's Door."

Mom and the family head to Cambodia over spring break. Dad is supposed to meet them there, but he's not at the designated meeting spot. The three begin to head to their destination, Angkor Wat, alone... As they walk on the road to Angkor Wat, some young boys greet them, selling coconut milk. Arriving in Angkor Wat, confused as to how to find their hotel, Dad suddenly shows up sporting a surprising look! He quickly scurries them off to show them Tonle Sap Lake. One thing about Cambodia you should know, is that children have to work very hard there. The working conditions are very poor. However, the smile on their faces is more beautiful than anywhere else. Mom and Dad both love that part of Cambodia.

Mom takes the four dummies, Bunji, Ma, Chi, and Daichi to the aquarium. Mom asks them to calm down on the train ride there, but they won't listen...The four finally arrive and exit the train. They just need to board the bus. However, one leaves to go to the bathroom and another disappears. This continues so they cannot get mving...Mom finally feels at ease, seeing the boys enjoying the aquarium. Eventually she dozes off. Thinking it's so loud, she wakes up to see...! Just when they're ready to leave, they see the souvenior corner. Mom tastes a side dish for sake while the kids make noise...

Bunji dropped all his school belongings on the roadway leading to school, but the kindhearted Chinatsu brought them to him. Mom, suspicious, secretly follows Bunji to school... Only those who finish their lunches fast in Bunji's class can have seconds. Because Daichi is out today, his pudding remains. The speed-eating battle for the pudding begins! Dad says he wants to go get ramen noodles in the middle of the night. Bunji goes along with him to his favorite noodle shop, but it's closed. They decide to go find a new place! Mom and Fumi go to the park on a day off. In the warm spring sunshine, they casually waste the day away listening to sparrows going "peep".

Bunji takes the entire class's supply of chimaki peels home after lunch. Ma follows, along with others. Mom watches over them as they plot to do something with the chimaki peels...
