Sugaring time marks the end of the Quebec winter, and the traditions associated with this highlight of the year are centered around the sugar shack. The production of maple syrup, as much as the gatherings it causes, has been anchored in Quebec culture for hundreds of years, and the transmission of the know-how it requires is more often than not a story of family. Our meeting with 5 Quebec families producing maple syrup, professionally or artisanally, highlights this tradition which is still evident and lived today. From tapping trees to manufacturing maple products, Oh Sirop is interested in maple growing practices that are part of history, which are passed down and adapted from generation to generation.

"Sugar Shack Tales" unfolds the stories of those solitary men who keeps the spring ritual alive. They run the buckets and boil the maple sap in their beautiful and old shacks surrounded by a mystical atmosphere.
Set in Auburn, Maine, The Steam in the Trees: The Making of Maple Syrup follows the seasonal process of maple sugaring at Treehouse Brand Maple, a one-of-a-kind train-style treehouse sugarhouse. From the first signs of thaw in the late-winter woods to the final pour of finished syrup, the documentary explores the craft, labor, and creativity behind making real Maine maple syrup.

The documentary explores the history, culture, and forced exodus of Middle Eastern and North African Jewish communities in the second half of the 20th century. Using extensive testimony of refugees from Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Morocco, the film weaves personal stories with dramatic archival footage of rescue missions, historic images of exodus and resettlement, and analyses by contemporary scholars to tell the story of how and why the Jewish population in the Middle East and North Africa declined from one million in 1945 to several thousand today.
