In the year 2035, convict James Cole reluctantly volunteers to be sent back in time to discover the origin of a deadly virus that wiped out nearly all of the earth's population and forced the survivors into underground communities. But when Cole is mistakenly sent to 1990 instead of 1996, he's arrested and locked up in a mental hospital. A guy visits Roland, claiming that they known each other, and offers him a lot of money to film his suicide. There begins a kaleidoscopic sequence of events and random acquaintances. They make the characters wander through the worlds of reality and fantasy, sometimes both at the same time. A dark comedy that tells nine related stories in which the fates of the characters intertwine.

Adaptation of a novel by Johannes Mario Simmel. The story takes place in the Dolomites, where a conflict arises between the clergy of a monastery and the inhabitants of a shanty town for construction workers over the water supply. A young novice feels increasingly attracted to the men who, after work, enjoy themselves in dimly lit bars with music and alcohol with easy girls. As a result, she is in danger of falling away from the faith and, instigated by a woman from the village, even leaves the convent. In the end, however, she finds her way back to God.
