'Barnes: Poetry in Motion' tells the story of one of football's most iconic figures, John Barnes, starting from his arrival in England from Jamaica and then being recommended to Elton John's Watford by a cab driver who had seen him play for non-league Sudbury Court. At Liverpool, John would establish himself as one the greatest player in the club's history, winning the league championship and the Football Writers' Player of Year award in two of his first three seasons at the club. Doors of the railway-cars open and attendants help passengers off and on. Popular legend has it that, when this film was shown, the first-night audience fled the café in terror, fearing being run over by the "approaching" train. This legend has since been identified as promotional embellishment, though there is evidence to suggest that people were astounded at the capabilities of the Lumières' cinématographe.
