Dear DOCS is a claymation short about Carol Gallagher, an over-zealous Betty White meets Victoria Beckham housewife whose excessive behaviour and strange community involvement incites her 'physiologically' affected ten year old son to make a video for DOCS, under the impression that he will be rewarded with chocolate brownies.

The Owl & the Pussycat

Short animation by Al Jarnow based on the work of British poet Edward Lear. Made at NYU.

Scratching and Painting on Film

A stream of consciousness experiment committed directly to celluloid, Jarnow pays homage to Stan Brakhage and Harry Smith. Abstract designs transform self portraiture, lettering tests and images traced from other films including a Charlie Chaplin short.

Tondo

Tondo introduces the cosmic formalism that was the primary theme of Al Jarnow's independent films. An infinite gridscape alternates with vibrating etchings, spirograms and other surreal realities.

Rotating Cubic Grid

The primary motif in this silent picture is a grid that controls the shapes and motions of forms contained within the framework of a rotating cube. Constructed from interlocking cycles, the film explores branches and loops along paths laid down by geometric logic.

Take Five

Early experimental film from Zbigniew Rybczynski that broke new ground in the use of pixelation, optical printing, animation and other compositional film devices. Beautiful jazz score and color usage.

Autosong

When Jill Jarnow won a blue Volkswagon in a design contest, and named the car Wart after the young king Arthur in T.H.White's The Sword and the Stone - it naturally wasn't long before the iconic vehicle turned up in a film. Autosong unfolds on an autobahn of the mind, a road between the formalism of highway driving and the looped flipbook experiments.

Crocodile Dreaming

Crocodile Dreaming is a modern day supernatural myth about two estranged brothers, played by iconic Indigenous actors David Gulpill and Tom E. Lewis. Separated at birth, they have different fathers. One is readily accepted as a full-fledged member of the tribe and is looked on to fulfill the duties of jungaiy, an important ceremonial role which obliges him to be caretaker for his mother's dreaming, the crocodile totem. The other, whose father was white, is younger and has had to struggle to fit into the tribe who see him only as a yella fella.

Chip and Dale are, of course, always one step ahead of Donald.
