Sky Murder

This final Carter film is a lot of fun, with Nick (unwillingly, at first) taking on a ring of Fifth Columnists (since this was filmed before the US entered the war, we're not told the villains are Nazis, but it's pretty clear anyway). Of course, the helpful and persistent Bartholomew is at his side--much to Nick's irritation. To further complicate things--and to make them still funnier--Joyce Compton is along for the ride too, as a delightfully brainless "detective" named Christine Cross.

He suspects Bruno, Formenter's adoptive son, and Tonio, the owner of a bar near Formentier's home. Bruno is actually after Formenter's heritage, and for that he tries to kill Catherine, Formentier's granddaughter. Therefore, Nick Carter finds himself against more than a gang, but he will uncover the plots, in time to break every gangster apart.

Sonic Youth: Koncertas Stan Brakhage Prisiminimui (April 12, 2003)

Filmed April 12, 2003 at a benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives, the international center for the preservation, study, and exhibition of avant-garde and independent cinema. In addition to screening films for the public, AFA houses a film museum, research library and art gallery. The event, which raised money for the Archives and celebrated the life and work of avant-garde film maker Stan Brakhage, featured Sonic Youth providing an improvised instrumental collaboration with silent Brakhage’s films. The band performed with drummer/percussionist Tim Barnes (Essex Green, Jukeboxer, Silver Jews).

A POW in World War II is put to work in a Munich zoo, looking after an Asian elephant. The zoo is bombed by the Americans and the director of the zoo decides it is not safe for his Asian elephant Lucy to remain there. So he sends Brooks to safety with Lucy. The whole thing takes place at the Central Park Theatre in New York in 1935. In the middle of a rehearsal of a new musical, the theater director Hector Chesterfield dies and in order for the musical to premiere in a week, it is extremely important to find a new theater director. Hector's wife, Patricia, asks her old acquaintance, the incredibly strange and stupid adventurer Captain Spoling, to take over the theater. After much deliberation, he agrees. Then the great mafia boss Don Calzone shows up and claims ownership of the theater. Hector bet the theater in a game of poker, and lost. Now the two candidates, together with their lawyers and the others, must find Hector's will to see who he wanted as his successor. Amidst all this, love stories, madness and misunderstandings unfold - all while the theater's existence is in danger.
