Classic Albums: U2 - The Joshua Tree

Release in March 1987, U2's The Joshua Tree quickly became the fastest-selling album in British chart history, selling almost 250,000 copies within the first week of release. In the US, it was equally successful, topping the Billboard album chart for nine weeks, spending 58 weeks in the Top 40 there and earning a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The story of the making of The Joshua Tree is told here, via interview and archive film footage, with contributions from band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. U2’s long-time manager Paul McGuinness reveals how the album catapulted the band into the category of rock superstars, and there are contributions from Elvis Costello in the role of a major U2 fan, re-mix producer Steve Lillywhite, and of course co-producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. Packed with reminiscences and powerful performances, this is the story of one of the most famous and best records of the Eighties, a true Classic Album.

U2 Go Home: Live from Slane Castle, Ireland

On September 1, 2001, Irish rock band U2 made a triumphant return to their roots with two outdoor shows at Slane Castle, Ireland. U2 chose the castle venue because it marked two watershed moments for the band: their recording session for the landmark album THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE in 1984, and their first Slane appearance opening up for fellow Irish rock band Thin Lizzy in 1981. The whole thing takes place at the Central Park Theatre in New York in 1935. In the middle of a rehearsal of a new musical, the theater director Hector Chesterfield dies and in order for the musical to premiere in a week, it is extremely important to find a new theater director. Hector's wife, Patricia, asks her old acquaintance, the incredibly strange and stupid adventurer Captain Spoling, to take over the theater. After much deliberation, he agrees. Then the great mafia boss Don Calzone shows up and claims ownership of the theater. Hector bet the theater in a game of poker, and lost. Now the two candidates, together with their lawyers and the others, must find Hector's will to see who he wanted as his successor. Amidst all this, love stories, madness and misunderstandings unfold - all while the theater's existence is in danger.

Guru

A young man Raghu sets up an explosive in a railway track to blow up a train. Raghu is a freedom fighter who wants to destroy the train in which British officers are travelling. He returns home after his successful attempt and is slammed by his rich father who is an ardent supporter of the British. Raghu insists that his country and its freedom are more important than anything. When police comes to arrest Raghu, his father hands him to them but Raghu's pregnant wife Parvati diverts the police and lets her husband escape. Raghu escapes in his bike and meets with an accident and is declared dead. Parvati gives birth to a son named Ashok and ten years pass by. She is away from her father-in-law and still in a belief that her husband is alive and shall come to them one day.
