This Chinese period drama series follows the fortunes of a prominent merchant family engaged in Traditional Chinese Medicine during the waning years of the Ching dynasty. The affairs of this family of doctors/pharmacists (which in those days were one and the same) are intimately linked with social upheavals of the time such as the encroachment of Christian missionaries and foreign imperialism as well as conflicts that inevitably emerge in a large upper class family. Comparable in scope and production value to such recent titles as "Downton Abbey", the lives and character of both masters and servants intertwine in plot lines that spans more than a generation.
Sung Sai Kit (Cheung Tat Ming) has retired to a poor shabby village and lived there in seclusion with his wife Ling Lung (Amy Kwok) and their child Joe since the Empress Dowager ordered the execution of his entire family. During a time of war, a man joins the Communist party and starts on a road to revolution. In the year 1946 when the Nationalists and the Communists were engaging each other's forces in Dongbei, bandits have become a serious problem and caused much suffering among ordinary citizens. Yang Fenghuo is an anti-Japanese occupation hero who has retired from service. He and Gong Wantang are blood brothers and rivals in love, but Gong Wantang is the leader of the bandits. Song Yi is a military man on a mission to bring down the bandits which leaves Yang Fenghuo with a difficult dilemma as he has to choose between patriotism and loyalty to an old friend.
One Life to Live is an American soap opera broadcast on television for more than 43 years on the ABC network, from July 15, 1968, to January 13, 2012, and on the internet as a web series on Hulu and iTunes via The Online Network since April 29, 2013. Created by Agnes Nixon, the series was the first daytime drama to primarily feature ethnically and socioeconomically diverse characters and consistently emphasize social issues. One Life to Live was expanded from 30 minutes to 45 minutes on July 26, 1976, and then to an hour on January 16, 1978.
Guiding Light is an American television soap opera that is credited by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running television drama in history, broadcast from 1952 until 2009, preceded by a 15-year broadcast on radio. Guiding Light stands as the third longest-running program in all of broadcast history; only the Norwegian children's radio program Lørdagsbarnetimen and the American country music radio program Grand Ole Opry have been on the air longer. On April 1, 2009, it was announced that CBS canceled Guiding Light after a 72-year run due to low ratings. The show taped its final scenes for CBS on August 11, 2009, and its final episode on the network aired on September 18, 2009.

The Electric Company is an educational American children's television series that was produced by the Children's Television Workshop for PBS in the United States. CTW produced the show at Teletape Studios Second Stage in Manhattan, the first home of Sesame Street. The Electric Company employed sketch comedy and other devices to provide an entertaining program to help elementary school children develop their grammar and reading skills. It was intended for children who had graduated from CTW's flagship program, Sesame Street. Appropriately, the humor was more mature than what was seen there.
